And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat! On that day, the Avengers were born--to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand!

Injected with an experimental super-solider serum during World War II, Frail Steve Rogers became the pinnacle of human physical perfection and armed with an unbreakable shield created from a unique mix of admantium and vibranium he became CAPTAIN AMERICA!  Frozen in suspended animated for many years he was rescued from his icy prison by The Avengers and has served not only as their leader but as their inspiration!

A cool exec with a heart of steel, Tony Stark has temporarily retired as The Invincible IRON MAN but he continues to fight for justice at the side of The Avengers armed with his scientific genius and the full resources of Stark Enterprises!

Having been mortally wounded in the pursuit of an intergalactic terrorist, Rhomann Dey, of the Xandarian Nova Corps, used his advanced technology to transfer his superhuman powers to Richard Rider. Soon, Richard discovered that he had been endowed with superhuman strength and resilience, as well as the ability of supersonic flight. Calling himself NOVA, Richard battled evil and established his identity and reputation as a "super hero." Over the years, Nova has battled many different types of menaces by himself or as a member of the rebellious young New Warriors.  And now he stands proudly as a full fledged Avenger!

While working at a nuclear power plant, Norton McCoy was exposed to massive amounts of radiation that affected his genes. As a result, Norton's son, Henry "Hank" McCoy, was born a mutant who showed the signs of his being different from birth with his unusually large hands and feet. As a youth, Hank's freakish appearance was the subject of much ridicule from his classmates, earning him the nickname of "Beast” A brilliant student, Hank graduated from the Xavier School to take a position at the Brand Corporation as a genetic researcher. During one of his experiments, Hank discovered the hormonal extract that causes genetic mutation. Hank took the extract and underwent radical physical changes that enhanced his agility and strength, as well as causing him to grow fangs, pointed ears, and fur all over his body. When he stayed too long in this state, Hank found he could not return to his original form. He was now a beast in fact as well as in name.  One of the Original X-Men, THE BEAST is also a well-respected member of The Avengers!

Clint Barton was raised in a carnival, where he acquired skills as a knife thrower, swordsman, and archer. He has also worked with darts, balls, bolas, and boomerangs. As HAWKEYE, he designs and builds trick arrows that perform a number of special functions.  He has had extensive combat training by Captain America, and is an accomplished aerialist and acrobat. He has an instinctive genius for calculating angles, velocity, and likely impact of objects in motion. In other words, he can hit anyone with anything. He routinely calculates and executes complex ricochet shots with a variety of objects.  He has phenomenal eyesight, hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and reflexes which help make him a natural with any weapon and a long time mainstay of The Avengers!

Bill Foster - Dr. William Barrett Foster, DSc, PhD - a child of the streets who pulled himself up out of the Los Angeles slums to become director of one of the nation's most prestigious research labs. A man whose research has given him the power to instantaneously grow to a height of fifteen feet, with the strength of a GOLIATH. A man who has become not only a hero but an Avenger!
A member of the Homo mermanus race, ANDROMEDA is the first born daughter of Attuma of Atlantis by his Lady Gelva. She was raised by her father as a boy, trained in the arts of hunting and war and she exceeded any other male except for her father in these skills. Despite her skills, she was considered unworthy of being his successor, because she was a woman. Andromeda left her father's kingdom and went to the underwater kingdom of Namor the Sub-Mariner. Namor gave her the honored position of Captain of his personal Royal Guard and personally requested that she take his place as a member of The Mighty Avengers!
Carol Danvers was a fighter pilot exposed to a Kree device and granted amazing powers.  Those powers were ripped from her when she battled the mutant Rogue, who absorbed her powers, memories, and emotional ties to her past. She was powerless and barely made it through the experience with her life. Later, Carol was granted cosmic powers through a white hole from being experimented on by the highly volatile and ruthless aliens the Brood. Her cosmic powers gone but not powerless Carol became the hero MS. MARVEL and today is one of the most powerful, loyal and valued members of The Avengers!
THE VISION was created by another artificial life form, the villain Ultron. Ultron loaded The Vision with the brain patterns of Simon(Wonder Man)Williams who was believed to be dead at the time. He tried to use the Vision as a weapon against the Avengers. The Vision, who had an independent consciousness, rebelled against Ultron, and became a member of the Avengers himself.   During a recent battle with Ultron in which Dr. Henry Pym was killed, the Vision was severely damaged and has only been recently reconstructed by Tony Stark.  But this time The Vision has been loaded with the brain patterns of Henry Pym.  The Vision still has superhuman strength, speed, and endurance. He can still project force beams from his eyes.  And he can still alter his density so that he can become intangible, as hard as diamond, or anything in between. He can decrease his density and fly, or increase his density to become effectively invulnerable.  But there is no way to know how having the memories and experience of Henry Pym will change his relationship with The Avengers!
